Mr. Roger F. McNeil, 85, of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Friday morning January 3, 2025, at home.
Roger Floyd McNeil was born August 21, 1939, the fifth child born to the late Floyd and Marie (Wilcke) McNeil. He was a graduate of Calamus High School. Early in his life Roger worked as an airline steward for the former North Central Airlines of Minneapolis for several years. He then returned to rural Grand Mound where he farmed for many years. Roger also sold Cattle, Pig, Funks G and Golden Harvest Seed Corn. He married Sarah Anne Wolfe June 1, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lost Nation. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Sarah preceded Roger in death September 13, 2010.
He was a longtime member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. Roger had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting. He loved to fish, hunt, play cards and checkers. Roger brought joy and laughter to every room, even if it was a sometimes grumpy grumble or a playful eye-roll. Known for his spirited sense of humor and heart full of love, he had a way of making life a little more colorful. Whether Roger was telling stories, cracking jokes, or just being himself, his presence was a constant source of warmth and mischief. Though his grumpiness could make him tough to read, those who knew Roger best understood the tenderness beneath, He was a father and grandfather who cherished his family deeply. His love will live on in the memories they hold dear.
Surviving are children and their spouses, Mike and Jean McNeil of Grand Mound, Kathy and Andy Zorko of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Tricia and Rich Lindabury of Eldridge, Iowa, and Chris and Shelley McNeil of Grand Mound; grandchildren, Brady (Katy) McNeil, Alan "AJ" (Courtney) McNeil, Chelsea McNeil and James “JR” McNeil; great-grandchildren, Keegan McNeil, Kayden McNeil and Baby McNeil due in May.
The family will receive friends at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound from 10:00 until 11:45 Saturday, January 11, 2025. A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday in the church with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page presiding.
