Jim Foote

Jim Foote of DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully Thursday evening, May 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home.

James Claire Foote was born January 7, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to the late Claire and Claribel Foote.  He graduated from Tipton High School in Tipton, Iowa, in 1960.  Jim married Susan Sunderman July 17, 1976, in Tipton.  He was a jack of all trades and dedicated 25 years to his career at United Parcel Service.  Jim started there as a driver and worked his way up to management, prior to retiring in 1995.  

Jim's family was the cornerstone of his life.  He was a hard worker who could build nearly anything.  Most likely, if Jim built it, It's still standing.  He was known for helping anyone at any time.  He had a gift of being able to do pretty much anything he set his mind to.  Jim will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his hard work and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.  

He was a devoted husband to his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Sue.  A proud father to Tina (Fiancee, Kerry Wright) Foulks, Mike (Rachel) Foote, Melissa (Mark) Gheer and Nancy (Todd) Grimm and a dear father-in-law to Tracy Foote.  Jim's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Chasidie Fogg, Alicia Fogg, Hope Sterner, Brittany Chapman, Brody Foulks, Allison Benson, Christian Foote, Emma Foote and Margaret Foote as well as several great-grandchildren.  He was also a dear brother to Larry Foote and Janet Elkins.

Preceding Jim in death in addition to his parents are a son, Chris Foote on March 28th of this year.

The family will receive friends at the United Methodist Church, 222 12th Street, DeWitt from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025.   A service will be held at 12 noon Thursday in the church with Chaplain Michael Le Buhn of St. Croix Hospice officiating.  

Pallbearers will be Mike Foote, Christian Foote, Mark Gheer, Kerry Wright, Lance Jorgenson and Dan Barr.
