Our friend Jane Yokoi died after an extended illness on May 2, 2025 in Honolulu, Hawaii surrounded by her family. She was 76 years old.
Jane was born in Hawaii and came to the mainland for college in Colorado. After graduating with a degree in special education she accepted a teaching position in DeWitt, Iowa. Jane lived and worked in the community for over 50 years. She was a volunteer in many organizations such as TTT, the Methodist Church food bank, DeWitt Noon Lion’s Club, Garden Club, Rock Island County Historical Society, The Tuesday Group, and the Blackhawk Hiking Club. Jane was a member of the hiking club since 1985 and traveled and hiked to many places. She had a very special friend, Bill Jones from Dixon, Illinois. They were very close until he passed away.
Jane loved to cook and bake. She made the best pies! She always shared her delicious creations with friends and neighbors. Jane was very thrifty and resourceful; she never let anything go to waste. Jane was considerate, always thinking of others and their needs. She helped where she could. Jane would give you the shirt off her back. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She was a lifelong learner and attended various classes to learn new skills.
Jane will be greatly missed by many dear friends and her sister, Leah who resides in Hawaii.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in the Lion's Club Shelter at Westbrook Park, DeWitt. Please bring a favorite memory or story of Jane to share.
Aloha
Aloha means farewell to thee,
Aloha means Good-Bye:
It means until we meet again
Beneath a tropic sky.
Aloha means Good Morning,
And always to be true,
But the best thing that Aloha is,
I love you!
